Packing your item for repair
Not everybody knows how to pack their treasured item perfectly. I have seen a number of packages arrive at times that to be honest surprised me that they have not been damaged in transit.
We have all heard the horror stories that certain couriers do not look after your parcel well. Even with insurance the degree of effort to attempt to get compensation for your loss is no mean feat.
So try to pack it well ?.
In my opinion one of the best forms of packing is newspaper. First, find a box at least 2inches wider and deeper than your item. If you have some bubble rap (great) just place this around the body.
Next crumble up newspaper and make a nice base for your item to lay on at least an inch in depth. Then with your item placed in the box, just crumble up newspaper all round the sides, so it feels quite tight , more at the corners as this is often the weak point if your box is dropped. (it does happen).
Then paper as before on top. Perfect (job done) , one last thing don't forget to place inside your box, your address details and telephone number. I still get parcels from people without any information and have to wait for them to contact me to know what they would like me to do.
If a parcel arrives which does look rather poor and I feel that it may have issues on its return, I will contact you regarding this. I can either replace your box with as stated above. But this costs time etc and I will need to additionally charge you at £20.00 fo the work. Or at your request I can return it with your original packing at your own risk.
One week I spent nearly a day going out finding suitable boxes and newspapers to do this task.
