I have worked on the BBC series The Repair Shop for the last  four series, Recent photo on the left taken for the 2022 Christmas special shown on boxing day. I have been repairing/restoring many items of vintage and classic electronic equipment from radios, amplifiers, tape recorders, radiograms, etc to a jukebox plus many more for the show. The picture above is Jay blades ( The Boss) with myself in between filming.

Note due to poor quality service with couriers and my packing material  (Banana Boxes)

are now going to be phased out, I can only offer pick up only

The amount of times I have had returns over the years due to poor courier service.

WHAT'S NEW?

Reel To reel tape machines

Reel to Reel recorders like vinyl in records are here to stay.

The period tape machines like Ferrograph were hand built to last and were built in the UK, just like the classic radio's of the same period use off the shelf components . With that classic valve sound and mechanical design what's not to like. Every institution had them BBC, schools, armed forces and if you were lucky the private owner to .With the correct servicing some 50 years later they are as good as the day they left the factory

Retro with Classic designs are now very popular. There are a number of client's who collect from a certain decade, this can be for personal interest or as props in television or film, through to interior design. At times we are asked to supply good looking models but are not fully functional. If there is a particular period radio you require please contact me to your specific needs so we can do the hard work for you.

If you place your mouse over the pictures of items of interest and left click, this will open the page with details and more photos

Extensive workshops for restoration and repair /service

Due to the increase of repairs for clients that i now undertake it is going to take me a little longer than I had hoped to get the quanity of radio's and televisions I have  to be ready for sale. My plan is to within a few months have a complete range of period, vintage radio's both valve and transistor avaliable  to offer a wide choice.

Radio repairs

Please read my article on the Store page under packing . To ensure your safe arrival and return .

As you can imagine the 1930's radio's have to be stripped, colour matched and french polished then the chassis cleaned, repaired re-aligned and tested before i would be confident to offer them for purchase. I'm always purchasing interesting models that I know will be of interest to you and with that in mind i plan to update with items that i,m currently working on. For example I'm restoring a McMichael 135  and 137 radio's including partial restoration to a 137 for a client plus two civilian receivers both completly stripped and made good, also the popular Goblin timespot will be on here again. That with the popular Hacker range I have and the Bush MB60's and TR wil keep me busy. There is nothing worse than looking in a shop window with items for sale seeing sold and no change of stock after weeks of looking I plan to update very soon. So thank you all for your interest and patience and keep watching my window for the new range coming very soon.

REPLACEMENT BATTERIES HT/LT SINGLE AND COMBINED FOR ALL PORTABLE TYPE CASE RADIO,S IN STOCK

The popular jewel case radios, that uses two batteries. The 90 volt HT and the 1.5 Volt LT have not been in production for over 35 years. Classic Radio Shop can offer copies of the Ever Ready models for your convenience. These batteries are the same as the original, so have two advantages 1) look the same for the authentic look and 2) guaranteed to fit in at times rather tight spaces within the radio. These can be opened up and re-used when needed.

We also offer the Sky series radios combined HT and LT.

See batteries for prices, now including posting and packing.

The Jukebox was quite a task  to get it fully operational again, but when you realise that the owner Geoff had so many memories tied up with this, even in difficult times that was always in the back of your mind to keep you going.

Inside the barn while filming the BBC series The Repair Shop in January 2020. The Phillips Disk Jockey  record player I had just completed is ready for the reveal later on that day.

YOU HAVE A RADIO, Turntable, TV or Ferrograph TO SELL ?

You have a radio or television you are considering selling, perhaps I can help.

There are so many different models of radio's and vintage TV's produced that it is difficult to know if the one you might have may be of interest to a keen collector, or just someone who would like to own one they perhaps remember seeing when they were younger. The vintage radios from the 1920's and early 30's are more for the collector or can just be of passing interest due to the need for batteries aerials etc needed to make them work again, but good examples are sought after but it is understanding the market to give correct exposure to a potential sale and like most things, if offering a aftersales service gives some assurance to the buyer as well as the history of unit that helps.

Pre 1940's televisions have a special interest to collectors and the early models can be worth many thousands of pounds, but like most of us we more likely had a standard more well at the time modern 1950 - 1967 set.

1940's radio's have a range of interests to potential buyers, ie they collect from this period, different development in the technology (TRF against Superhet) , audio output stages etc

Radio enthusiasts are similar to porcelian collectors, condition is very important and as near as original as possible adds to this quite a lot. With this in mind I can arrange either pending distance a viewing to take a look or a courier to pick up so it is evaluated here. I can give you a current market value and price I would say the equipment is worth in its present condition, and either purchase direct from yourself's or act as an agent on your behalf.

Due these days with the help of advance technology the 405 line tv's produced many years ago have taken on a new lease of life, as now you could have that television in pride of place in your home and watching your latest DVD, satellite or even free view tv channel, that makes a once static curiosity into a full functional piece of furniture for your modern home.

Of course many radio's of the 1950's - 1960's are very common and often have little value apart perhaps from certain valves that may have been fitted, it seems such a shame that something quite old may have little value apart from certain parts, but then lets be quite honest there are a number that are just plain ugly even when first produced and just do not improve with age.

There are of course the exceptions to the rule, for example the round Ecko's , at the time were not expensive , quality was fair and that was it, now a classic icon and very sought after.

A radio fully working will always been more valuable than one that is not, again I can offer the service of repairing/restoring and acting as an agent on your behalf and payment only after it has been sold, so no up-front bills to worry about.

Portable radio's are interesting to collectors and individuals alike, for example the Hacker, certain models are now becoming quite expensive to purchase. But only certain models .

So if you have a radio or Television and would like advice please give me a call and lets see what I might be able to do for you, it is important to point out that from a historical point of view you could have a radio of interest, which may not mean ££££££££ signs in front of it, but should be restored and displayed as it could be lost for ever.

Buying and selling period TV's and vintage radios is no different to classic cars, finding the correct dealer who can give you the right advise is most important, and that should be free.
