ULTRA TWIN DE-LUX (R906) 1955

In my opinion the rarer of the two models available in this series in imitation crocodile leather. The models were first introduced in 1953 with the popular coronation twin (R876) named of course due to the coronation of queen Elisabeth 11 and it seems that these models were introduced a year or so later, in fact this one is date stamped at 7th June 1955 with serial number 1598 this should help to time line any other ones in collections. The radio is mains or battery with an I.F of 471 Kc/s , why 1 Kc/s off the normal is interesting, that aside this is a standard medium wave and Long wave receiver which has had a lot of replacement parts fitted with a total re-alignment and RF factory set undertaken to ensure it works as good as the day the first proud owner used it. I often wonder who these people were and wonder if the two types were issued as this one for the gentleman and the snake skin version for the lady of the house, either way it would have fitted well into the middle class house hold with that contemporary style.

The radio comes complete with 1 years guarantee and original mains lead.

Condition is very good

The last photo shows general condition of the chassis and that it still has its original battery compartment fitted, the two plugs are used for the 90 volt HT and 7.5 Volt LT . The self contained frame aerial is fitted into the rear hinged door. The design of the radio is very sound ensuring long term reliability and easy servicing if required, as the valves used are direct heated types no heating issues are noticed even with the mains metal rectifier and dropper resistors fitted.

The 3 large dropper resistors visable on the right hand side show a simple power supply with no typical 50 Hz mains hum, the one in the middle R20 1650 ohms is used for the heater chain while the left/right resistors R22 & R21 adjust for mains voltage with the single mains rectifier MR hidden behind the metal chassis to the front of these resistors.

Save this product for later

I will have vintage and period Turntables for sale. I can also advise or service or restore your own.

As my website has been updated, there are photo's which are rather low quality, these will be updated soon.
