BUSH DAC90A (1954) (SOLD)

The most popular classic radio available is the Iconic Bush DAC90A. A five valve radio, AC/DC transportable super-heterodyne receiver which has Medium Wave and Long wave switchable from the side. These receivers are small in size 9.25 inches height, 7.5 inches depth and 12.75 inches in width and therefore fit comfortably in any modern home. To ensure reliability as standard all the components that would require replacement have been done. The radio had not been used in years and it is nice to see an element of dust around the chassis, no tomb robbers have have been in here ? Well Perhaps not, because when I had removed the chassis the radio had in fact had a repair undertaken in my opinion in the 1970's. I recognise those typical radio and TV shop Pinnacle valves fitted, plus the Radio spares capacitor on the HT supply. So you can say with confidence that the radio had come in for repair with a common fault (mains hum) as time is money, change the common culprits the half wave rectifier and possible cathode to heater short audio output valve, and while you are there the smoothing HT capacitor. Job done , next one please .

All the valves have been tested and are very good revealed by great sound and sensitivity .The I.F section and RF sections have been aligned and therefore is very responsive. The Bakelite case or in this case as it has a cream pigment (Catlin) is very shiny but does have typical issues, the most noticeable is a slit heat crack above the mains dropper section, quite common . The other more of an issue is the bottom right has a crack which I would say was due to impact damage , really only seen from the base section. The pigment added does make this Bakelite more prone to stresses in the mould than the standard darker colours. If this was the standard Walnut type finish then you would replace the case. As these models are rarer and as it is all original with the box and packing then it deserves saving . A damaged Aston Martin is still highly sought after . The crack has been stabilised and the cases overall impression is very good. Hence why its here, a great looking every day radio .Comes complete with original mains plug and 6 months guarantee.

If this model was perfect then it would have a value in the order of £240
