Ferrograph Tape Recorders

Just As record players never really had gone out of fashion and now is main stream again. Tape machines are also doing the same thing , with interest from the public as well as the professional  studio's who are now using good quality tape machines. One that comes to mind is the all British built Ferrograph.

These were built to a very high standard so much so, that every broadcaster was using them and to some degree still do. All the models had three independant motors, and had tropical treatment given to all the windings, hence you will not find a faulty motor.

First produced in 1949 the model's over 3 decades had only minor changes in design and operation apart from the model 7 series. All the other model's were using valve technology given that warm sound. The prices at the time were not for the average home owner as even in 1959 a series 4A model was £81 gns  which was nearly 8 times a weekly wage for a skilled man , which in today prices places it in the order of £4000 , hence why they were so well built and work just as well today.

I will be offering a number of different models for sale all guranteed from the 4 to the 6 series and when using them , there is that something special about mechanical and valve technology working together you

One thing to note with Ferrographs if the tape you are using has issues ie the rewind can seem poor, this make be due to your machine requiring a service or as often is the case its the tape itself, it at first seems hard to understand but this is a common issue with old tapes. Service Sound who are experts in their field will be able to advise you on this and any other issues you might have , there details are on my main page.

Ferrograph 634H, being taken apart for a comprehensive service.

This model is very sought after as it offers high tape speed and stereo recording.
